A Limerick A Day – Day 8 – Spring Breakdown

Today my daughters and I are driving off into the sunset for a Spring Break journey through Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. We’re no stranger to The Road Trip, having completed a few short and long ones together.

For this trip, I’ve planned a leisurely (for me) pace, having learned my lesson about trying to power through the voyage when I’m the only driver in the car. This one’s going to be less about the destination and more about the journey.

Of course, through the years and over the miles, I’ve picked up a few tips along the way.

For example: Cruise Control is your friend. Especially when driving through areas frequented by ticket-happy Texas State Troopers.

Also: Not all Dairy Queen bathrooms live up to their sparkling reputation.

And: Audio books are a good idea, if you can get everyone to agree on one.

And most importantly: never, ever, EVER attempt to drive two pre-teens, a medium-sized dog and a full load of luggage and ski gear 905 miles in one day.

Wish me luck.

Spring Breakdown

Off I go with no small trepidation
For a week of Spring Break “relaxation.”
I’ve no doubt we’ll survive
Our three-state-crossing drive,
And return in need of a vacation.
