CENTRAL TEXAS ICE DAY
There’s no snow on the ground
and it’s 35 out.
It’s chilly but clear,
so of course there’s no doubt
that the powers that be,
the leaders who rule,
have decided that we
should not go to school.
Well, at least not on time –
we’ll start later this morning.
I know this because of the
crack-of-dawn warning.
That phone call, it rang
so loud in my ear —
but should I be surprised?
It’s the fourth one this year.
Now, I know that bad weather
endangers our drivers,
but at this point we’re expert
ice crisis survivors.
We know how to drive
per the safety directive.
So trust us, and stop being
overprotective.
My kids even say
these days are a bummer —
especially when make-up time
steals from summer.
So now that I’ve ranted,
the last that I’ll say
is: Be careful out there
and have an ice day.
